Rule Change on Delayed Penalties for 2020.

by Daryn Goodwin

In an attempt to keep the natural flow of the game, we’ve added a rule.  Teams will no longer have the ability to kill the clock in their defensive zone on a delayed call.

On a delayed penalty call, once the non-offending team substitutes for their goalie and the puck crosses the center line, the puck may not cross back over the center line into their defensive zone.  The non-offending team has 30 seconds to bring the puck across the center line once they have substituted for their goalie. If they fail to cross the center line with the puck in that time the play will be whistled dead, penalty assessed, and the face off will take place in the defensive zone of the team going on the penalty kill.  If the play is in the offensive zone and the puck crosses back across the center line into their defensive zone, the whistle will be blown, penalty assessed, and the ensuing face-off will take place in the defensive zone of the team going on the penalty kill.
