Soaked in Long Island

By Jeremy Ellis

The 2013 NARCh regional tour slogs on as we drop the puck in a soggy Long Island.  The three day regional brings us to the Rapid Fire Arena in Moriches, New York.  It is always nice to come out to the stomping grounds of roller hockey icons Jason Muro and Anthony “Vio” Violante.

It was hairy making it out here today.  The area is being deluged with the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea. As I flew from Chicago to Baltimore to Long Island, the rain never stopped and has been heavy throughout the day and evening.  Mike Vickerman, my cohort this weekend, was delayed for 2 hours as he tried to escape the abyss of the Philadelphia airport.  Traffic on the island has been snarled all day as teams have been in constant communication with us about game times. Thanks to everyone who has braved the elements in making the games tonight.  Flash flood warnings are prevalent this evening and roads are snarled with standing water.

The Junior/Men division is the biggest this weekend with 7 teams this weekend.  We will have action in that division along with Mites, Squirts, Pee Wees, and Midgets.  Stay tuned to for blog updates and live scoring.

Come by the rink and say hi, just be sure to wear your galoshes!
