Move It!

By Jeremy Ellis

Rolling into Thursday July 24, 2014 and excitement is in the air.  All of the top guns have been rolling into the Germain Arena and that means one thing; NARCh Pro starts today!

The best roller hockey players in the world have converged on Florida to seek fame and glory.  The annual ritual is one that this sport’s community looks forward to every year.  While other events have Pro divisions, the one that takes place every year at NARCh is the biggest and the best.

The Mission Labeda Snipers are the defending champs, but personnel changes have taken place for this go-round.  Noticeably absent are long time sniper and American Hockey League forward Pat Cannone who is preparing for his upcoming wedding.  Congratulations Pat!  Will one of the new teams step up to take down the crown or will longtime powers like the Tour Mudcats, Alkali RPD, or PAMA Cyclones hoist the hardware?  Let us not forget the Detroit Bauer Bordercats who feature speedster and Division 1 top scorer Tyler Spezia.  It’s anyone’s guess who will leave the rink Saturday evening with a smile on their face.

One thing to keep an eye on as play starts today is the puck movement.  We have made teams aware that we are stressing that the puck needs to stay in motion.  What we want from this directive is to keep these games exciting with a pace that is worthy of the talent on the floor.  Our sport is unique in comparison to its ice cousin, but as a result, teams have morphed the game into a possession based keep-away contest.  As many of you may know, the NARCh Pro final will be broadcast on NBC Universal and we want to put our best foot forward and keep the product top notch.  What this does is make the game faster, more free flowing, and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.  Personally, I cannot wait to see the action go end to end like we anticipate during the first day of action today.

On a separate note, the Live-Stream is up and running.  Apologies for the delay yesterday, but all of the games we taped will be available online to review and watch.  Midget Platinum concludes today with an exciting final between the Mission Mississauga Rattlers and Mission Black Ice coming up.  Also today, the Pee Wee Platinum skills take place on the Arena Rink and will be streamed.  Make sure you get out and sign up and take a look at all the videos we make during that event, really incredible footage.

I am definitely looking forward to the action today as we head into our final weekend of the 2014 Finals.  See you at the rink!
