We are in the final game of the evening, the mens division match-up of the Montreal Alkali Ducks and the Scorchers. It is approaching hour 18 of our day here, and while somewhat weary, it has been easy to stay sharp with the quality of today’s hockey.
One division, Atoms, was wrapped up in one day here at the rink. We will recap all of the divisions on a later blog, but nothing beats the first championship game going to overtime! That one was a microcosm of the day as there have been numerous one goal games and last second goals. There is a good deal of familiarity with these teams and it is always great to see the teams mingling with one another off the rink.
The Marple sports arena has been a wonderful host, providing all that we have asked for. From paper clips, to scissors and copies, everyone has been pleasant and helpful. It definitely makes our job easier when the staff are friendly and willing to help. The local officiating staff have been top notch as I have seen some old faces and some new talent that have cut their teeth in the very competitive Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association. Many teams here in the older divisions are compromised of talent from the College circuit. Like the college season, the NARCh season bring out the best of these team’s competitive juices. There was a couple instances of rough play in the mens division, but these teams usually know only one way to play – HARD!
Well the final game just ended with the Scorchers taking down the Alkali Montreal Ducks. I cannot wait to see how the men’s division plays out, as there is still not a clear team favorite. I sign off with just enough time to get about 5 hours of shut eye before doing it again tomorrow.
Stay tuned, Sunday is all about playoffs here at Marple and I expect some barnburners. We will be up and running with live scores, photos and blogs throughout the day. Take care NARCh fans and have a great Saturday night!
