Irvine Day 2 Recap

Friday April 27 2012

Irvine, CA

I haven’t been back to Irvine since the Give Blood Play Hockey Tournament; even then the Anaheim Ducks were just taking over. Now, the rink is awesome and with new paint, locker rooms fixed up, banners galore. Irvine, previously 949 Roller Hockey Center, has transformed into a beautiful venue. It is one of 3 inline facilities that the Ducks own and operate.

I drove down to Irvine last night so I was not able to be in Irvine early enough to help out with Thursdays games. Since the moment I arrived, it’s been non-stop busy. Check-in folders are piling up and overfilling. This is definitely the NARCh Spring-nationals. We have over a 100 teams to check in this weekend, 250 games to keep track of, and over 50 are playoff games. All three rinks at this facility are going full speed. No doubt the NARCh crew will have a lot on our plates this weekend.

So far, I have managed to catch a few parts of games and seen some familiar faces, from Northern and Southern California. I personally think it is awesome to have Northern California teams to come down to Sothern California to play in different tournaments.

Earlier today we had Squirt, Mites, Midgets and Pee Wees play. Then we had Bantams, NARCh Pro, Juniors, and Mens to end the night. The Pros just finished up their first and only game of the night. The first of two games was set up to match the Las Vegas Tour Rebels against Larceny. Larceny played from behind the entire game with Mike Urbano doing all he can, and ended up losing the game to Las Vegas by the score of 3 to 1. Axiom and Labeda squared off after, both teams played their tails off, and the game resulted in a 2 to 2 tie. We are scheduled to go deep into the night and finishing at approximately 1 in the morning. By the end of the night we will be 105 games into the tournament.

That concludes today’s blog. I’ll have something up for tomorrow, and Sunday as well. Tomorrow games starts bright and early at 6:30 AM
