I don’t think CBS will be too upset that their name was borrowed for the title of this update. It is 11pm Eastern, 8pm Pacific, and we are smack in the middle of our longest NARCh day ever on the island of Oahu.
The beach is not too far from here, but we will not be seeing any of the waves for another 24 hours, as we still have 48 games to go! Here is a little “Halfway to Hawaii” update:
The youth divisions are almost done with their preliminary play, and have their playoff seeding almost complete. The most interesting matchup of the day was in the Squirt Division, as the last game of the round robin featured Australia’s Southern Stars vs. KIHA Geckos from Hawaii. The way it played out, the Geckos had to win the game to surpass the Stars in points, and earn the championship game berth. The Stars only needed a tie to make it to the final.
The game was knotted up at 5 with about 7 minutes to go in the game, when the Geckos stuffed one past the Stars netminder. They added a bit of insurance with just under 3 minutes to go in the game. The Stars weren’t about to quit though, as they stormed back with a goal of their own, bringing the game back to within one goal. The last 2 minutes were very exciting, as there were multiple scoring opportunities for both teams. In the end, the Geckos held on, and made it to the final. It was a well played game by both teams, and Australia should be proud of their efforts this weekend, as they finished .500 at 2-2.
The other divisions all have some interesting stories as well, and all of those teams will be in action tomorrow in the semifinals. We will update you then!
Aloha for now.
