Divison 1 Breakdown

by Daryn Goodwin

MISSISSAUGA - Division 1 is considered one of the most competitive and entertaining group of games to catch here at the NARCh Finals, with that being said today would be the day the division would crown itself a champion.

Black Ice, RattlerCats, Tour RoadRunners, ISCA Grizzlies, HockeyMutt.com, and the Halton Alkali Coyotes would be the six teams to make it out of the round robin to compete for the Division 1 Championship.

Quarter-Finals

The top two seeds (Black Ice and the RattlerCats) would earn themselves a bye to the semis, meaning the Coyotes and HockeyMutt.com would be the first quarter-final, while the second quarter-final would be a duel with the Tour RoadRunners and the ISCA Grizzlies.

The Halton and HockeyMutt match-up would be a very defensive hockey game, rather surprising as both squads have loads of firepower up front. However Coyotes' Blake Luscombe would break the egg for Halton, and that would be enough for them to score a date in the semis against Black Ice, defeating HockeyMutt by a score of 1-0.

In the second Quarter-Final match up the Tour RoadRunners would just manage to squeak past a very feisty Grizzlies 3-2, after they would survive a last second surge to hold their lead, and face-off against the RattlerCats in the semi-finals.

Semi-Finals

The Semis were also very competitive hockey games. In the first match-up, Black Ice would just squeeze by Halton by a score of 2-1, while the RoadRunners led by Max Halvorsen, who chipped in two points would defeat the RattlerCats 4-1, meaning the RoadRunners and Black Ice would have a rematch for the D1 Championship.

Championship Game

The sequel between the RoadRunners and Black Ice would be very similar to last year's championship game. In Fort Myers, Black Ice would control the whole tempo of the hockey game, and it would be no different this time around.

Tyler Kraft would set up Derek Groff for two identical goals, while recent acquisition Brycon Johnson would also wire one home, and adding an empty-netter Mission Black Ice would repeat as D1 Champions, shutting out the RoadRunners by a score of 4-0.
