As we head into day 3 of our NARCh regional here in Hawaii, we have a lot going on. The Yoder brothers are chasing immortality as they work hard at cementing their place in NARCh history by chasing the one gold medal that has eluded them…The coveted 35+ championship. On a more serious note, the work that has been done with the Hawaiian teams thanks to Jami and his crew here has been phenomenal. The systems that have been put into place will help hockey here grow for many generations to come.
Moving from one set of stars to a group of Stars from another country we bring you the teams from Australia. As roller hockey has grown, the gap in the skill level between the “Hockey nations” and the rest of the world has been quickly closing. Nowhere has this been more apparent to me than when I am watching the teams from down under play. Each of their teams plays with speed, passion and skill that starts with the kids and culminates with a very strong adult team with high aspirations. I look forward to seeing the teams they bring to finals.
As always with the final day of the tournament comes playoffs, and already we have had a couple of great games. With one overtime thriller, between the Bantam Southern Stars and KIHA, in the books, the bar has been set pretty high for the rest of the day.
With the rest of the youth divisions, women, and the men all coming up later in the day, everything so far indicates that the medals are going to be hotly contested. I look forward to a strong finish to what has already been a very fun and entertaining tournament.
Stay tuned, more updates to come…
