Day 1 - Early Evening Update

Day 1 – Early Evening Update

As the day has progressed there’s been foot traffic going every which way in and around the rink. A few teams came in fired up, hot, and ready to go this morning in the Peewee division going 2-0 to start the tourney. Making the trip from BC, the WC Warriors 98s proved they’re a top competitor in their first two games initially defeating the Revision Devil Dogs 6-3 and then beating up 2K Gong Show with a final score of 7-1. Similarly, NCR Tour Elite went 2-0 to start the tournament in a decisive fashion, beating Notion by a final score of 6-1 and the Tour Labeda Mudcats 2 7-1.

Since the Peewees each played a pair of round robin games this morning, the Bantam and Squirt divisions have been going all afternoon. Each Bantam and Squirt team has played their first round robin game of the weekend and for many, their second games are underway as I’m typing this.

In the Squirt division, the Militia 5th Battalion AA came out flying defeating AKS Black 11-3.  A few other games had similar final scores but the majority of games in both divisions have been back and forth battles settled by one or two goals determined by that extra-effort grinding play along the boards.

The Bantam division seems to be separating a bit already with a couple of teams displaying that slight edge and extra effort winning battles to every loose puck. Coach Jay Russell has seamlessly guided team Alkali to a pair of wins in their first matchups of the weekend. With 14 goals for in only their first two games, Alkali seems to be the offensive powerhouse in the Bantam division thus far.

In the very first game of the Mite division, the Militia 37th Battalion dominated their opening matchup defeating AKS 02 by a final score of 9-1. There’s a big block of Mite games scheduled on Rink 1 over the next couple hours so head back there to watch the future of roller hockey dangle, snipe, and celly.

Midgets and Mites are really just getting under way here at Irvine Inline and we have plenty of more action to come. Junior’s, Men’s, and Platinum/Pro start in just a few hours. As always, be sure to take a look at the NARCh Players Facebook page for action shots from games throughout the day and check back late tonight or early tomorrow morning – depending on bedtime – for updates on the rest of the night’s action.
