|
PHOENIX, AZ – The Chavira brothers Juaoquin and Itan were a grim tandem, but only for the Tour Mudcats who lost to LA Mission Pama in the Pro Championship 8-4.
The first period was a back and forth chess match punctuated by highlight reel goals and a fast pace. Brian Yingling tallied first with CJ Yoder assisting for a 1-0 lead at 14:02 for the Mudcats.
The Cyclones responded with two of their own as Jerry Osterkamp equalized the score at 9:37 with Juaoquin Chavira assisting. Then at 6:07 of the first period Juaoquin made it 2-1 on a nice goal that seemed to energize the Cyclones.
The Mudcats answered quickly however, with a goal by Yoder at 3:08. Yoder walked the puck from the corner, transitioned to backward and tucked the puck past Rob Laurie to tie the game at 2-2.
The Cyclones moved back into the lead with 1:02 to play in the period as Itan Chavira got on the board with a similar deke in front of Cats goalie Brett Leggit making it 3-2 and closing the opening period.
In the second, the Cyclones found the net again to break their lead open to 4-2 at 10:42 on the goal by Aman Kler.
The Mudcats brought the game to within a single goal with the tandem of Dan Costanza and Yoder combining at 9:32 to make it 4-3. It was then that the Cyclones closed the door on a comeback.
Four goals in two minutes made it an 8-3 game in favor of LA. Juaoquin scored twice, while Jerry Osterkamp and Christian Skoryna got singles.
The Mudcats added a final goal at 1:36 when Yoder assisted to Costanza, but the damage was done and Pama had their first ever Championship in the Pro division over the famed Tour Mudcats.
As for the Chavira brothers, the two combined for 6 of the 8 points in the game. And by the way, if you’re looking for the Sidney Crosby of Roller Hockey, it is Itan Chavira. The young 87-birth year (making him 18-years old) is something incredible. He will surely become the face of the roller hockey player in the years to come.
LA’s Rob Laurie took top goalie honors and CJ Yoder of the Mudcats was the divisions high scorer.
So that’s it for the Pro Division, LA Mission Pama Wins it 8-4 over a shocked Mudcats. Lots of Championships tomorrow so stay tuned to NARCh.com for all the latest from the Worlds Greatest!
