Rocky Mountain Recap – Mothers Day
Here's how it broke down in Colorado.

What a great weekend. In typical Colorado fashion, I thought it was going to snow yesterday and we needed to be in shorts today!

The action today was great. Divisions were split after re-seeded into the playoffs and it made for some very competitive playoff games.

Mite Division (10u) – The Kodiaks were the cream of the crop. Sort of silly, the AA roster was really the AAA Team and vice versa, not sure what the reasoning was there. So when you see the results and they don’t seem right, that’s the reason. The better Kodiak team took down the Daredevils who battle hard all weekend to make it to the championship game. In the lower division (labeled gold) we saw some great action. The Wolverines took the title but the Crash Dummies, Kodiaks, and Underdogs all competed well and had some close games.

Squirt (12U) - One thing that stood out at this regional in squirt were a lot of big kids! A few times I glanced up and thought they were peewees. In the platinum division, there were two upsets in the playoffs and the Kodiaks AAA and Wolverines ’96 went home early. Advancing were the Daredevils and the Wolverines ’95. The Daredevils proved to be too much for the Wolverines ’95 and took home the title. In the Gold Division the RMR Eagles battled back to defeat the Hotshots Inferno for the gold title, even after dropping their first two games of the tourney.

Peewee (14U) – The best team on paper was the Kodiaks AAA. However this is hockey, and we all know what that means. They were upset in the Semi against the Kodiaks Minor team that went on the face the Daredevils ’94 in the championship game, and carried their momentum to a championship, 7-3. The RMR Pazimps, Mission Wolverines ’93, OD’s Daredevils ’93 and Bladium Dynamite were all solid gold teams that battled in close games in the playoffs. In the lower division, The Mission Wolverines ’94 defeated the Hot Shots Inferno for the title, 3-1.

Bantam (16u) - There’s good parity within this age group in the state. The Colorado Misconduct won it’s first two games of the tourney and ended up the 4 seed. They then beat the Rams who were the top seed and then win on to win the championship against the Tour Stealth, 3-1. The Stealth and Mission Colorado Kodiaks battled in the other semi-final, which the Stealth won. The Kodiaks Minor Team took the championship in gold by defeating the Wolverines 92’s.

Overall the event was great. The staff at RMR was fantastic, especially the owners Andy and Tina. They’re not above anything to assure that the facility is kept clean and friendly. You just get a warm feeling when you walk into the front door of RMR, which made for a very pleasant weekend.

Thanks to all for playing and we hope to see you in 2 months in San Jose!
