NorCal gets prepared for the NARCh Finals
Last weekends regional qualifier at Silver Creek was a blast! Here's a brief recap.

Last weekend 60 teams participated in the largest regional qualifier ever held in Northern California. Since the NARCh Finals are heading to the Silver Creek Sportsplex this July, it’s no surprise that everyone who’s anyone in the sport in NorCal participated. Silver Creek was packed both days and there was an excitement in the air about playing NARCh that many teams and players were experiencing for the first time.

The Revision Mustangs ran away with the Atom Division (8u), but the best game of this division came between the NorCal Extreme and High Country Mission Hawks in the semi-final. The Extreme came out with the early 3-goal lead, only to have the Hawks come back and take the lead by scoring 4 straight. Fittingly, the game went to overtime tied 5-5. The Norcal Extreme parents exploded when Jacob Kim found the back of the net for the game winner for the Extreme, who advanced to the final.

In Mites (10u) the Delta River Rats took the title defeating the Revision Mustangs in a physical rivalry. At Winternationals the Mustangs took 2nd and the River Rats 3rd, so these two teams battle tough all year.

In Platinum Squirts (12u) the San Jose Jawz and Santa Clara Blackhawks face off in the championship. This was the best championship game of the tourney, by far! The Jawz managed to tie the game with just 14 seconds left to carry the game into OT. It could not be decided in OT, so a shootout saw the Jawz goalie, Geoffrey Grimm, stand on his head and lead his team to victory. Geoffrey was also took home the top goalie honors and selected as one of the NHL Junior All-Stars.

In Squirt Gold the Quakes defeated the NorCal Extreme 7-1. The NorCal Extreme defeated the Revision Colts in the semi’s to get there while the Quakes defeated the High Country Mission Hawks in the other semi-final after tying each other in round robin play.

In Peewee (14u) Platinum action the Revision Mustangs defeated the River Rats for the title and the Quakes Black defeated the High Country Mission Hawks for the Gold Title. The Mustangs and Quakes proved to be the top two teams in this region and it’s unfortunate that they faced each other early in the tournament, which derailed them from matching up for the platinum title.

Bantam (16u) was by far the largest division with 18 teams competing! Team X made the trip up from So Cal and took the platinum title over the NorCal Extreme. The toughest game for Team X came in the round robin, when they tied the Black Beauty Quakes Black. The Water City Serpents defeated Team Redline Red for the Gold Title. There were a ton of one and two goal games through this division, showing the parity within this age division in Northern California.

In Midgets (18u) Mission Hysteria proved to be the most dominant team north of the San Andreas Fault, beating the Alpha Dogs in the platinum championship. The Black Beauty Quakes defeated the RBK Patriots for the gold title. Hysteria will also be making the trip down to the Irvine Qualifier to find out if they can compete at the platinum level, or if they’re better suited for gold at the NARCh Finals.

Men’s Gold saw Goodlife dominate the division. The other 3 teams East Bay Jawz White, San Jose Cheifers, and Team Mexico were all extremely evenly matched. In the round robin Team Mexico beat the Chiefers ,the Cheifers beat the Jawz, and the Jawz beat Team Mexico. Team Mexico won the tiebreaker and went on to the championship against Goodlife, who will be playing platinum at the NARCh Finals.

Men’s Platinum was really more of a mix between true platinum and pro. The LA Pama Chupacabraz and LA Pama Cyclones made the trip up from LA for some good competition against the best NorCal had to offer. The Riot, Dekeyrel Chiropractic, and East Bay Jawz were all made up of PIHA Players and were gunning to take out the Cyclones, a true pro team even though they were missing some players. The Cyclones prevailed taking the title against Dekeyrel Chiropractic in what turned out to be a very competitive division.

I’d like to thank everyone who made this weekend an exciting, entertaining, and smooth event. We look forward to seeing you all in about 3 months for the NARCh Finals.
