Team USA vs Canada for Gold!
It's a special game.

TEAM USA vs CANADA, it’s going to be awesome!

After a few minutes on Facebook adding some friendly banter with a few of my good buddies from the North, I’m sitting here thinking about what a special game this is. As the cliché’ asks, I do remember where I was in 1980 for the Miracle on Ice. I was spending the weekend with my grandparents. I actually caught most of the gold medal game on the radio coming home from church in the back of my grandpas Cadillac. Didn’t all WW2 Vets drive a Cadillac in those years? It was his pride and joy, and cruising in the cream of the crop of an American Made vehicle listening to the game was a bit symbolic, looking back on it now.

Tomorrow is obviously about country pride but I also think of it as a time for the hockey community to come together and celebrate the sport, no matter which side you’re rooting for. For this event to be happening on the North American Continent and feature Team USA vs Team Canada in an event that only takes place once every four years, well, it’s truly special.

I obviously want the US to win. Country Pride is reason enough, but in addition, Team USA also has two former NARCh Players, Bobby Ryan and Paul Stastny. While this victory for the United States would be more of an upset than a miracle, it will create a whole lot of positive exposure for hockey here in the United States. The Canadian General Public already knows what an awesome sport this is, so they’re one up on us there.

No matter who wins, I will remember tomorrow’s game for the rest of my life and I’m sure I will think of my grandfather a few times as well.

Enjoy the game!

Daryn Goodwin
