Sunday Championship Recaps
A brief look at all of today’s final games.

Squirt Division

This morning started out with a playoff game, seeing who would move on to play the #1 seed in Tour Roadrunners 97 Black. The Cougars and East Coast Impact faced off and the Cougars put their feet on the gas, dominating the game, 9-2. They then had the tough task of facing the undefeated Roadrunners. This game did not last all 24 minutes, as Vio’s team poured it on, 9-1, winning the division. Sam Eisenhower of the Cougars was the high scorer, and Joey DeRicco was the top goalie.

Bantam Gold Division

In order for the Choice Inline Cougars and the VM Rockets to make it to the final, they would each have to upset a higher seeded team in the semifinal… and sure enough, they both did it. The Rockets took it to Team Sickness, and the Cougars scored in overtime to beat East Coast Impact, sending the 7 and 8 seeds to the championship event. The Cougars were still playing on that overtime high, and handled the Rockets easily, winning 6-2. The high scorer was Joey Sullivan of East Coast Impact, and the top goalie was Dan Peterson of the Rockets.

Bantam Platinum Division

Mission Black Ice 93 could quite possibly be the best Bantam team in the country, and they wanted to prove that this weekend against their opponents. They sailed through the round robin and into the playoffs, beating the Tour Roadrunners in the semifinal this morning. They ended up matched against a great Buffalo, NY team in Tour Excitement. Black Ice was up to the challenge, and played their best hockey of the weekend, holding the Excitement scoreless until the last few moments of the game, winning 7-1. The high scorer was John Schiavo of Black Ice, and the top goalie was his teammate, Thomas Palermo.

Pee Wee Gold Division

East Coast Impact hoped to bring a medal back to their organization, but had to get through the Jr. 495ers to get to the final. The VM Rockets doubled up the Roadrunners White team, making it to their group’s 2nd final of the day. Once the game started, it was obvious that the Impact were not satisfied with just any medal. They wanted gold, and got it, beating the Rockets 4-0. The high scorer was the Rockets’ Andrew Fox, and the top goalie was Daniel Peterson of Impact.

Pee Wee Platinum Division

The Jr. Gladiators and Black Ice 95 were completely tied in points, goals, and goals against after the preliminary round. It took a shootout this morning to see who the #1 and #2 seeds were. Black Ice won that shootout, pitting them against Choice Inline Cougars in the first semifinal. This extremely close game saw Black Ice squeaking out the win, 3-2. The Gladiators matched up against 96/95 Roadrunners, who were ready to play. The Roadrunners took the defensive battle to overtime, and nailed the game winner, moving them on to the final. In that game, Black Ice completely took control, besting their fellow Long Islanders by 7 goals. The division’s high scorer was Tyler Kraft of Black Ice, and Steven Mundinger of Black Ice took home the top goalie award.

NARCh Cub Division

The most entertaining games to watch today were the Pro Division and the 6 and under division, which we call NARCh Cub. While the Jr. Gladiators are a great team, and have amazing individual talent, all of the kids on the floor had a great time, and were great to watch. Ben Brett, Brett Lester, Lalar Knoll, Jordan Kupersmith, Jacob Reamer, Michael Rovinsky, Jesse Shorr, Jesse Webber and Iain Ribarich represented the Skate Safe Snipers. Kristin Berger, Zack Schwartz, Pauly Desaro, Marina Alvarez, Aidan O’Connor, David Walsh and Trevor Makosiej played for the Lil’ Tour Roadrunners. Alex Gattone, Gavin Havens, Teegan Moleski, Sam Lipkin, Dan Quartapella, Alexis McElhone and Joey Strofe were on the Jr. Gladiators. We hope to see them out here for years to come!

NARCh Pro Division

An incredible division this weekend saw 8 of the world’s best roller hockey teams battle for a $10,000 purse. Check out Doug Jones’ blog to see how everyone got to the playoffs. The final ended up featuring the top 2 seeds in the Pama Cyclones and Tour Mudcats. This game had a little bit of everything: great defense, amazing saves, and ridiculously sick goals. Both teams traded off goals to start, as the Mudcats got on the board first, and Pama answering back moments later. A few more goals for each team saw the score tied at 3. That’s when Itan Chavira took a wrist shot from the top of the circle, finding the upper left corner of the net, in the 6 inch space that he had to shoot at. An amazing flurry by the Mudcats in the last few minutes looked like it would tie the score up, but Troy Redmann kept every puck in front of him, and the Cyclones ended up winning their 2nd NARCh title this year. Redmann ended up as the top goalie, and first time high scorer in Pro was Josh Laricchia of the Mudcats.

Men’s Gold and Silver Divisions will be included in tomorrow’s recaps.

Have a great night from the Big Apple!
