| What's happening at this moment at Winternationals.
Yesterday I had a moment that would usually irritate me but instead I found some humor and joy out of the situation. The Venezuala Men’s team was set to play against the Montreal Ducks, who are competing in their first NARCh. The Venezuela squad appears to be a new group along with a few players that have traveled to NARCh before representing Brasil (with an s), and the Ducks are very French/Canadian, heavy accents. The locker room situation was a bit jumbled and the team from Venezuela didn’t realize they were on because we were running early. I got them a room and I’ve never seen a group of men get ready so quickly! The Ducks were very appreciative because they could use the extra warm-up skating on a surface that was foreign to them. I walked over to the refs to let them know the situation and just sort of cracked up over that fact that there’s two teams that are so excited to play and neither one of the teams speak great English. Pretty cool.
Good to see Vio. He looks great. I know he’s back in school to get an additional degree and has found some time to lose a few lbs.
There was an incredible finish last night between the Misson IHO Grizzlies and East Coast Hockey Online.com. These two teams are led by great ambassadors for the sport, Stefan Robertson from Ontario and Joe Darcy from NJ. It appeared that the game was going to be a rare 0-0 tie until East Coast found the back of the net with just under a minute to go. In a game that saw nothing cross the red line until the last :56 seconds you would think that it would hold up, right? The Grizzlies pulled their goalie and and threw everything at the net and with less than a 1 second left on the clock, tied the game. While the East Coast squad was not happy about taking home 1 point rather than 2, they were happy to be part of such an exciting hockey game.
Since the Mission Syndicate squad is not present, Pat Lee has laced them up for the Revision Buffalo Wings. The Wings took a while to get going against the Speed Racers, but once they did, they looked strong. The score was 0-0 for most of the first. I literally walked outside to make a call and came back to a 5-0 score.
UPSET ALERT: As I’m sitting here typing the Wings are battling it out with the Savage Wolves. The Wolves were up 6-1 and it looked to be all but over. It’s now 5 minutes left in the game and the score is now tied 6-6. Note to coaches in the pro division: If you’re playing the Wings and they get momentum you may want to call a time out! This game isn’t over though. The Wolves probably would have been happy with the opportunity to win with 5 to go, so this should be a great finish.
The Mission Booth is now set up, and Mike is here with Rink Rat. CJ Yoder is also present with an RHA Table, so feel free to come by and chat it up with him to see what RHA is up to.
That’s it for now, I’m going to catch the end of this great pro game.
