Here we go on the East Coast.

We’re up and running here at the East Coast Winternationals. This is our 3rd year of this event here at Skate Safe and every year it seems to get a little smoother. Skate Safe is the nicest facility in this area. If I could change one thing about it I would add a rink. Each year this event has hosted 70-80 teams, and it just can’t be any larger than that due to getting the games in on two rinks.

Getting here was a bit of a challenge. I was scheduled to arrive on Wednesday but everything was snowed in, so all flights were cancelled. Luckily the weather was more cooperative on Thursday and everyone got in just fine. Tim McManus reminded me about 3 times yesterday that I was lucky that the storm didn’t happen 24 hours later. I agree, and of course wish him the same luck with the State Wars Event in PA in a few weeks, as the weather this year has been crazy.

We do manage to get some new teams out each year that have never been. This year there’s more Canadian Teams and we even got a team from Venezuela. They practiced today and are a great group of guys, so excited about the sport.

Squirt and Peewees kicked off the event and unfortunately there were a few blowouts. Pro’s start soon and that should be a great division with 8 teams battling it out for the 10k.

I’m really happy with the medals for this one. When you’re designing something that’s round and do it 4 times a year for over 15 years it’s sometimes hard to come up with a fresh cool look. We managed to nail it for this one.

Looking forward to some great games, good conversations, and a few laughs. Also looking forward to some good Italian Food and hopefully a trip to NYC on Monday Night when this all wraps up.

Stay tuned for constant scores, pictures, and blogs.
