Sat AM Update.
Today is going to be another great day of hockey.

Sat AM Update.

Yesterday could not have gone better. There were some great games and the energy in the building was just incredible.

I had a few conversations about the sport in general yesterday and one thing that I couldn’t help but bring up was the increase in the men’s participation. The Men’s Silver Division is up from 8 teams last year in this event to 16 this year. Because there’s really no way to know the rosters and the level of a lot of these teams, I decided to split the division into two brackets after 3 prelim games, just like we do for a few of the youth divisions. I have to admit it’s very cool to see players that I haven’t seen in 6 or 7 years as teenagers that are now back playing men’s. Once they start having kids that love the sport like they did we should see some 2nd generation growth.

Last night I missed a great pro game between USA Clinics and Mission Syndicate that ended in a tie. I made an airport run in traffic to pick up my family. We did make it back just in time to catch a great game between the Pama Cyclones and Prestige. Pulling up to the rink I was amazed. I’ve never seen the parking lot as busy as it was last night. It was difficult to find a spot. When I walked in I understood why, the place was absolutely packed. The energy was incredible. The game did not disappoint either, as Pama scored two quick ones to pull out a victory, even though Prestige led or had the score tied for the majority of the game.

Since squirt and peewees had 3 games yesterday, we’re already into playoffs for them. In the squirt silver quarters Revision Mustang Silver will advance after defeating the TO Bruins 3-0. The Quakes took care of Team Redline to advance, and Maka’u’ole defeated the Puckhogs. In the last quarterfinal game the Norcal Extreme defeated the 949 Anarchy by a score of 3-1.

In the peewee silver quarters the Quakes defeated Puckhogs, Norcal Extreme over Revision Mustangs, the HC Mission Hawks defeated the Valley Thunder, and the Chico Firebirds beat Team Hawaii.

Every division except for Cubs and Atoms are in action today, so it should truly be a great day to be around the rink and absorb the great hockey. Make sure you also check out some of the great photos that IDI is taking. They have a booth with monitors set up by the entrance as you walk in.

Thanks again for being part of this great event and I hope you are having as much fun as I am!
