Sweepstakes Winner!
Reed Bazso at the Winter Classic!

The journey started for Reed Bazso at last year’s NARCh Regional tournament in Escondido, California. Reed helped his Tour Outcasts ’94 team to a second-place finish at the tournament and was named an NHL Jr. All-Star for his play.

Many months would pass, Reed and his team went to the 2009 NARCh Finals in Toronto, and eventually the season ended. Then, months later, Reed’s father Steve received word that the two of them would be going to the NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park in Boston as winners of the grand prize drawing.

“We couldn’t believe it,” said Steve.

Father and son finally made the trip last week to Boston for an experience they will never forget. The NHL and NARCh provided flights, a hotel, and two tickets along the third baseline of Fenway Park for what ended up being an incredible hockey game.

Before the game, Reed and Steve took in their surroundings at the NHL’s fan festival outside the stadium: the streets were packed, vendors were everywhere, bands played, and everyone talked about the game.

“The excitement was unbelievable,” said Steve. “We got into the stadium early and just walked around talking pictures.”

And the game didn’t disappoint. The Bruins and Flyers played a back and forth game that went into overtime and, for the first time at the Winter Classic, the home team came out victorious. The Bazsos left the game happy and with many memories they won’t soon forget.

“The game was awesome, everyone was screaming, it was loud and noisy,” said Reed. “It was great to see a game outside, I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

“From the national anthem to the very end we didn’t sit down once,” said Steve. “Everyone was standing the whole game, every shift. There was non-stop chanting all game.”

“The whole experience was amazing,” said Reed. “It’s something I’ll never forget.”

“We’re so thankful for this opportunity, it was unbelievable,” Steve added. “Thanks for NARCh for the opportunity, to the NHL for a great show, and thanks to both of them for supporting youth hockey so much.”
