Greasy Joe's Takes Gold
Magic was no test.
After too many years and numerous name changes, Greasy Joe's Bottomless BBQ Pit won NARCh Senior Gold. With a core that has been intact for many years, Greasy Joe's savored the win long through the night.

Nothing is ever easy for a team coming from St. Louis. The first thing Greasy Joe's did was qualify in Illinois for Finals. The change seemed to help.

The luck was not on the side of the Big Grease, Ian Mackie, before the first game. Mackie was pulled over for excessive speed and driving like an idiot. After the police took their time handing out the tickets, Mackie and half the team made it for the game with no time to spare. Goalie Gregg Diepenbrock wore a set of pads from another St. Louis team (his pads were in the back of Mackie's SUV), and Steve Sommerich had to dress in car after the group was let go by the cops. The team had four guys and a goalie to start and won the first game.

The rest of the games seemed to go by without much fanfare, Greasy Joe's was 4-0-0 and the top seed overall. After earning the top seed, Greasy Joe's used the extra time before the game to help out the local brewery in town and drank a couple Bud Lights.

The first game was against the hated Chicago Magic. The team was ready to play, too bad the Magic wasn't. After that easy victory Greasy Joe's was set to play E-Pro Shop. The Semi-final game vs. E-Pro Shop was the best Greasy Joe's had played up till then, with a 4-0 win it was on to the Finals.

The team was led by Neal and Gregg Diepenbrock along with the Shah brothers, Osmaan and Amir. Another set of brothers, Steve and Ian Mackie, were the plumbers of the team. Leo Schonhoff and Kenny Hammond played great hockey throughout the tourney. The defensive pairing of Mackie and Hammond was offensive to all with only one minus the whole week. Finally, Tom Fussner will go out on top. He is retiring to the Old Guys of 35 and older, but he played his best hockey of his great career at Teco.

On to the Finals which pitted Greasy Joe's vs. the Madhatters. The Madhatters were far more talented than the portly BBQ boys. But with team defense and an unbelievable goalie, Greasy Joe's pulled it off. Finally, they get a cup to drink out of that is the most respected cup in the Roller Hockey World. This team had fun with the Cup, One-eyed Joe, Bud Light, and one extremely nice hockey mom into the night. It is on to WinterNationals next and maybe some more BBQ.
