The Eyes Have It
Hometown Snake Eyes close to perfect @ Lexington Regional
| The hometown Snake Eyes medal in all six divisions held at the Sports Blast -Lexington April 25 - 27.
Atom: Looking for a sleeper team at NARCh for the young ones? Well look no more, the Phantoms are it. After dropping their initial game to the Snake Eyes, they won their next 2 games and advanced to the Final where they would face the Snake Eyes once again. This time the Phantoms took control early, gaining an early lead, held off the rally, and added a couple of goals at the end to win the division.
Mite: The Cincinnati Swords were the #1 seed entering the Final, with the Snake Eyes #2. During the round robin, the Swords had won their initial meeting, 6-3. The Snake Eyes would add some late goals and Alex Mesmer would shut the door as they pulled away to win the Mite division with a 7-4 victory.
Squirt: 1st and 2nd place were decided at the end of the 4 game round robin, with each team having played each other twice. Which meant that Game 21 would wind up being the big game. The Snake Eyes and Cincinnati Storm had tied earlier in the day. The winner of this game would likely be the champion, upsets notwithstanding. Once again, we saw quite a bit of offense while in KY with 11 goals being scored in a 7-4 Snake Eyes win. Their Squirt championship was completed the next day as they beat Gear Mid America 3-1.
Pee Wee: The Roller Dawgs wanted to avenge their early round loss to the Snake Eyes in the PW Final. They looked ready, and played a tight physical game to try and control the Snake Eyes. In the end though, the Snake Eyes would find the gaps and claim the Pee Wee title with a 4-2 victory.
Bantam: The MOB (Men of Bosco, see the Photos/Videos for an explination) would once be the team waiting for the Snake Eyes this time around. The MOB were able to advance to the final by scoring an empty net goal in their round robin game against the Cincinnati Storm. Knowing a tie wouldn't help them, the Storm pulled their goalie after tying the game up late in regulation only to see a MOB clearing pass wind up in the baaack of the net with only seconds remaining. In what was another physical Final, the MOB were able to slow the Snake Eyes down early, but in doing so were unable to generate any offense of their own. Eventually the Snake Eyes started to find the net and gain control, rolling to a 7-0 victory.
JR/SR: This would be the Snake Eyes toughest test of the regional. Facing off against the Capital City Gamblers in the Finals. Many of the players from the Gamblers play for OSU and were part of that great overtime CRHL Championship Game at the 2002 Winternationals. The Gamblers had the size and some speed, however, the Snake Eyes jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and were able to use that cushion to dictate the style of play. And while it does happen on occasion, you need a superman type of effort to comeback. The Gamblers came close, but the Eyes goalie looked to be the size of a Walrus, held on for a 5-3 win to close out the regional.
