Score it a Hat Trick!
NARCh hosts TX Regional @ HTHC
If its April we must be in Texas. NARCh hosted its 2003 TX Regional at the Hat Trick Hockey Complex in scenic Denton, Texas.

Despite having a very north texas flavor, the regional featured many of the teams who have had strong showings over the past couple of years. Teams such as the Madhatters, Fierce Cucumbers and Bulldogs all returned for another round of qualifying for the 2003 Finals.

Before we get to the recaps, thanks to the staff at HTHC, for all the help this weekend.

Mite:
The Texas Chaos are quickly making a name for themselves in the south. Having placed 2nd in Lake Charles last month, the Chaos made the jump to the top spot this weekend and claimed the division with a hard fought 4-2 victory over the Slapshot All Stars, who placed 2nd. The teams had played to a 1-1 tie earlier in the regional. 3rd place went to the hometown Denton Tigers.

Squirt
Win or go home. That was the task facing Team Hat Trick (THT) and the Slapshot All Star Red squads as they faced off in the 10:45AM game on Sunday morning. The winner would advance to face the Bulldogs in the Championship Game. Megan Gault, who earned the division's Top Goalie honors, played a strong game for THT and they advanced with a 2-1 win. Playing before the largest crowds of the weekend, the Bulldogs and THT battled back and forth with the 'dogs leading 2-1 as the game wore on before Stephanie Hoth tied it at 2. The Bulldogs roared back on the strength of C.J Coslett, who's 3rd goal of the game would seal the hard fought 3-2 victory for the Bulldogs.

Pee Wee
The Madhatters showed themselves to be the strongest team by outscoring their opponents by a combined 20-3 over 3 games, ending with a 5-0 victory over the Slapshot All Stars in the Championship Game.

Bantam
It wouldn't be so easy for the Madhatters in the Bantam Division. Their last preliminary game had them facing off against the then undefeated Fierce Cucumbers. Had the 'Hatters lost, they likely would have been eliminated and the Slapshot All Stars White would have advanced to the Final. Despite being down 2-0 early, the 'Hatters bounced back to win 3-2. A couple hours later the 2 teams once again faced off, this time for the

Bantam Championship. The Cucumbers once again raced out to an early 2-0 lead only to once again watch it evaporate. Tied @ 3-3 with time running out, the Madhatters took what appeared to be a costly penalty. However they took advantage of a misplay and raced down the floor to score the go-ahead goal with less than a minute to go. In the waning seconds the Cucumbers would have one last chance, until the shot clanged off the post, allowing the Madhatters to capture their 2nd division of the day along with bragging rights over their local rivals.

If you're looking for the Madhatter's Senior Team, look up as they travel north to IL next weekend to play in our regional @ Sportsplex. Could they be looking to avenge their loss in the Sr. Gold Semifinals to the Chicago Magic from the 2002 Finals? Unfortunately due to CRHL Nationals many of the players who normally play Sr. were out of town.
