Cub Platinum and High School Update
Bordercats and El Dorado win coveted titles
Bordercats control their Cub win vs Nike OC and El Dorado storms back in a game of big momentum swings to take the HS crown. Jr Final set to begin with Tour Bordercats and Mississauga Hyper advancing to the Championship.

Cub Platinum Final
12:20 pm

Tour Bordercats vs. Nike OC Blades

Nike OC advanced with a 6-5 win over the South Florida Jr. Lightning while the Bordercats held off the Mission Rapid Fire Snipers, 6-4 to advance to the Final.

Nike OC Blades would score first as Dinger did the dirty work to smack home a 2nd chance rebound while on the PP just 3:24 into the game.

Tour would come right back though as Houle scored off a rush, finishing it with a nice deke to tie the game 10 seconds later.

The 2 teams would remain tied for most of the half until Jubb would hold off a backchecker and wrist one into the net from the slot. The Bordercats would hold the 2-1 lead into the half in a game that was low scoring only because of the play from each of the goaltenders.

Tour would take a 3-1 lead as Houle would score his 2nd of the game and they would pad the lead shortly after as Comrie scored their 4th unanswered goal.

Gizinsky would score a PP goal just over halfway through the 2nd half to stretch the lead before OC would answer back with a PP goal of their own to trim the lead to 5-2. Unfortunately for OC, they could get no closer and Tour would get one last goal to close it out via the empty netter as they would move one step up the podium this year and claim the title with a 6-2 victory.

High School Final
1:40 PM

El Dorado vs. Santiago

Once again Santiago would be in a High School Final, this time their opponent would be El Dorado who defeated Marina, 2-0 in one semifinal while El Dorado overpowered Intelli (the 03 WN Champions) 9-1 to advance.

El Dorado would open the scoring while the teams were playing 2 on 2 at the 4:52 mark as Santiago had both their players caught deep after a turnover and Rotunda would convert a feed from Garlick while on a 2 on 0 to put them up 1-0.

Rotunda would score again just 31 seconds later as the first penalties expired off a good fake before going high to the glove side.

El Dorado would just miss going up by 3 as they rifled a shot off the post thirty seconds later, only to have Santiago recover the puck and have Burnett race down the floor and snap one to trim the lead to 2-1, essentially a 2 goal swing.

Burnett would tally again just 14 seconds later off a backhander from the left side that just slid through the pads of El Dorado’s goalie. Santiago would then take its first lead of the game just 19 seconds after tying it. giving them 3 goals in 33 seconds as Munson blasted one home. Burnett would score his 3rd of the game in the waning seconds of the half to take a 4-2 lead.

Santiago would give one back early though as El Dorado would convert on a power play just over a minute and a half in with a big rip from Simpson on a one timer that would be a goal anywhere.

Garlick would tie the game for El Dorado with just over 5 minutes remaining as he cut in hard from the right side and beat the goalie with a nice backhand. Despite good chances for each squad, neither team could find the net and we’d head to OT to decide the HS Final.

It wouldn’t take long though as Garlick again would be the man for El Dorado as he took a long pass after sneaking behind Santiago’s defensemen and faked right before burying the puck into the net and clinching the title for El Dorado.
