NARCh Update - Final Day
Update 2 - Mite and Squirt Silver
Nearly halfway done here at TECO on the final day of play. A recap of some of the Jr Playoff games that are wrapping up will come in the next update.

Mite Silver Final
9:40AM
Mission Cobra Selects vs. Labeda Knights of Corona ’92

The Mite’s were our most competitive game so far this morning. Each of the two teams in the Championship game had been scoring prolifically in the games leading up to the Final.

The Mission Cobra Selects would take a1-0 lead early in the contest off a goal by Kozik, who skated in and sniped one by the Knights goalie. The teams would play quite a bit of the half in the neutral zone as they played strong defense to thwart the others attack.

At the end of the first half, the Selects would still be holding on to that 1-0 lead in what was likely the lowest scoring half for either squad so far this week.

The Knights would have a chance to tie early in the 2nd half as they had an early PP. However it would be Kozik who would take advantage with his 2nd goal of the game, shorthanded and the Selects would go up by 2 with just over 10 minutes to play.

Meyer would trim the Cobras lead in half with a goal at the 7:36 mark, getting the Knights on the board and back into the game.

The Knights would then kill off a penalty of their own to keep the deficit at 2 and would get their best chance of the game with 2:47 left only to be turned away by the Selects goalie, Meyer. His counterpart on the Knights, Latham, would match his efforts just46 seconds later as he first stopped a slapper from the slot before controlling the rebound with a Cobra player right on the doorstep.

The Knights would pull their goalie with a face-off deep in the Selects zone and just over a minute remaining. The Cobras would win the draw though, and get the puck deep where after failing to connect on a couple of good chances, would get the empty netter after a strong 2nd effort in the slot to stretch the lead again to 2.

Time would run out on the Knights of Corona as time ran out and the Cobras began to celebrate their Mite Silver championship and 3-1 win.

Squirt Silver Final
11:00AM

CPH Frenzy vs. San Diego Gulls

Is it really 11AM already? The games are flying by here during the last day of the 10th Annual NARCh Finals. Both teams made it to the Championship by eliminating one of the Team Excalibur entries. CPH defeated Team Excalibur Silver 4-0, while the Gulls beat the 91’s 3-2 to advance to the Final.

The Frenzy would open the scoring 3:14 into the championship as Miller, a lefty shot, skated down the left side pulled the Gulls goalie out of position and fired one into the opposite corner to stake the Frenzy to a 1-0 lead.

CPH would go up 2-0 just 90 seconds later as Thompson was on the right boards and shook off a Gulls defender and fired a 45 foot pass to an open Talcott on the backdoor for the easy tap.

The lead would grow to 3-0 with Talcott scoring his 2nd of the game, as he slid the puck back across the grain while in the slot.

CPH and the Gulls would each have a man in the box as we neared the end of the first half, this seemed to give the Gulls a boost and they played some of their best hockey soon after, taking advantage of the open area and generated some quality scoring chances while on the ensuing PP, however the CPH goalie was equal to the task and preserved the 3-0 lead.

The 2nd half would feature quite a bit of action in both ends but no scoring until the Frenzy scored just as a 2 man advantage ended with 1:44 left in regulation and Miller had its 2nd of the game.

CPH would close it out with its 5th goal just 10 seconds later as Whisnant scored and the Frenzy would be our Squirt Silver Champions.
