OC Blades win Atom's
Playoff's ahead for Mite, Squirt, Bantam and Varsity Cup
| The Atom Final was a rematch of last year's teams, the OC Blades and Rapid Fire Tour Smoke.
The Smoke won last year's final, in
what was an upset over the favored
OC team, that seems to have a
strong team in the younger divisions
year after year.
This year the Blades played strong
throughout the tournament, gaining
the #1 seed and a spot in the Final.
The Smoke had to overcome a
strong Tour Venom 93 team in a
semifinal to advance.
There would be no repeat for the
Smoke this year as the Blades
controlled play from the beginning
and cruised to an 8-0 victory.
Rocco Grimaldi won the High Scorer
and Laura Chamberlain, both of the
OC Blades, was the top goaltender.
Barely an hour later, many of the
Atoms met again in the EAST/WEST
All Star Game. So far the the West
had won all the games played and
before the game, it seemed as if they
were the favorites again. However,
the EAST finally came through this
time, holding on to a 4-3 victory over
the WEST.
Varsity Cup seedings for tomorrow
are set and are as follows:
#4 Francis Howell North (MO) vs #5
Parkway South Patriots (MO) and the
winner will advance to face #1 seed
Santiago #1 (CA) who has been the
team to beat since the beginning.
#2 Varsity Blues faceoff against #3
Dana Hills Dolphins.
Cub Final is the only championship
game tomorrow and features the #1
Pines Thunder meeting up with #2
Team Tour Detroit. Watching the
youngest ones play is always
enjoyable and this game will be
shown live on NARCh.com.
Mite Playoffs:
#2 AMB vs #7 Laverne Empire 91
With only a few goals scored
separating them from the top seed
AMB looks ready to earn a trip to
another championship game.
Laverne Empire 91, who went 1-2-1
in the first round will have their hands
full and will need to keep it a
defensive battle to have a chance at
the upset.
#3 Tour Powerhouse vs #6 LI Royals
A Long Island team again looks to
make a mark in the younger division,
but the Powerhouse have some
serious offense, scoring 34 goals
over 4 games and well Brandon Pirri
can put on a show as anyone who
checked out the Mite Skills
competition can attest.
#4 OC Blades Black vs #5 Team
Hyper
OC joined the top 3 seeds with a
perfect record, and outscored their
opponents 26-9. Team Hyper had a
slightly higher offensive output
outscoring their opponents 31-10,
however they lost to OC Blades Black
in the first round and this should be
an excellent rematch.
Squirt Playoffs:
#7 CPH Mayhem vs #10 Team Eagle
BC
#8 Snipers vs #9 CPH Wild
These games are a precursor to play
the #1 OC Blades Black and #2 AMB
89
the #3 St. Louis Tour Blast vs #6
Rapid Fire Tour Dragons should be
an excellent game, altough it seems
as if the Dragons are somewhat
fearful of the Blast.
#4 Tour Powerhouse vs #5
Cavewear Cavemen
Another good battle, the Cavemen
have been working all year to show
their 3rd place Winternationals finish
wasn't a fluke, but rather a
springboard and are looking to bring
some pride to Texas hockey. The
Powerhouse once again have a
good young team and are a strong,
disciplined bunch, better defense
wins this one.
Once the Bantam division gets
seeded, we'll update and discuss
the 1st round and quarterfinals that
will take place tomorrow.
