The 9th Annual North American Roller Hockey Championships!
The Finals of the World’s Greatest Roller Hockey, also known as NARCh, will be held in St. Paul, Minnesota, July 27 through August 8, 2002. It’s Big Time roller hockey. Really big time. “Each year we strive to create a Finals experience that is better than that of the year before. Having the 2002 Finals in the coolest new NHL arena is just incredible. Our staff couldn’t be more excited,” commented NARCh’s Jeff Mason.
Paul Chapey, who has been NARCh Tournament Director since the event’s inception in 1994, commented, “Brampton and Teco set new standards for facilities, but we think we took the bar and raised it a few more notches.”

NARCh Hockey Director Daryn Goodwin, who has been involved in NARCh both as a player and as a staff member since 1994, noted how exciting the 2002 Finals will be for the NARCh player, “NARCh players will never forget the first game they play in this new NHL arena! It’s like a Little Leaguer getting to play in Yankee Stadium ”, he said.
For those of you who have been on pins and needles waiting to hear the location of the Finals, we have but one thing to say to you: We think it’s been worth the wait. There is an expectation from players, parents, coaches and sponsors that the NARCh Finals should be held at the very best facility. With the help of a really great team of people in St. Paul, including Athletica-Border Patrol, the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, the St. Paul Convention & Visitor Bureau, Touchstone Energy Place and the Xcel Arena, the event has become a reality.

The NARCh concept began in January, 1994, with the roller hockey industry coming together to create the World’s Greatest Roller Hockey. The goal was simple: to create the world’s finest hockey tournament, ice or roller. NARCh was the result, and all of the industry leaders and the best and dedicated teams signed up to support the cause.
Since then, NARCh has steadily grown to the point where it is today: poised to run the largest hockey tournament in the history of North America. Like NARCh Finals in past years, the 2002 Finals are going to be incredible. They’re going to be memorable. But most of all, the 2002 Finals are going to be HUGE!
St. Paul, the “Twin City” of Minneapolis, has definitely put its best foot forward to host the event. “I am pleased that we have been able to reach an agreement to host the 2002 NARCh Finals in Saint Paul, Minnesota, this July and August. Minnesota Sports and Entertainment, the Saint Paul Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Xcel Energy Center and the Touchstone Energy Place convention center are excited…I am sure your participants and families will find Saint Paul, home of the Minnesota Wild, a warm and inviting city, with plenty to do and see,” commented Jim Ibister from Minnesota Sports & Entertainment.

Special thanks goes out to Bob Naegele. Without his support, the event would not be a possibility. “It’s going to be a great event,” the industry executive commented. Bob and David Battel, from Athletica and Border Patrol, have committed to constructing two state-of-the-art rinks in Touchstone Energy Place next to the arena. Therefore, there will be three rinks for the event. And of course, they’ll be all SportCourt, the best skating surface in roller hockey.
“We are so happy to provide an opportunity for NARCh players to play in what many consider the best NHL arena. We sincerely intend to out do ourselves and along with our partners, we will present a Finals that will reach a new level of excellence,” commented Paul Chapey.
